Between the Royal Palace and the Collegiate Church, at the foot of the Watzmann: a small village of wood and light that opens its doors for six weeks every year.
From regional mulled wine and hand-turned filigree tins to the Bosna sausages from the Bäcker brothers. Most of the stallholders have been taking part for years, many of them from the Berchtesgadener Land region.

Berchtesgaden is part of a network of traditional Alpine Christmas markets — alongside the Wolfgangsee Advent in the Salzkammergut, the Salzburg Mountain Advent in the Großarl Valley and the Christmas market in Sterzing. Four towns, one promise: regional, time-honoured, authentic.
Measuring one to two metres in height, these centuries-old motifs from Berchtesgaden folk art have been faithfully carved and painted. They are repositioned amongst the stalls every year — some visitors make a point of looking for them.
